Scarborough is a tidal harbour which means that at low water on low water springs the outer harbour is figuratively dry.
On approaching call Scarborough Harbour on VHF channel 12 giving vessels details and ETA. The watch keepers will advise on water depths and berthing arrangements. Waypoint 54°16’·50N 00°22’·00W, 122°/302° from/to East Pier light 0.83 sea miles.
Approach from the East to avoid Ramsdale Scar, rocky shoal 0.9 sea miles. Keep careful watch for salmon nets East and South East of the entrance.
Beware of the rocks extending approximately 20 metres South West of the East Pier head.

Shelter is good in the Outer Harbour (east) with access of ± 3hours over High Water via a narrow (10metre) entrance by the East Pier, but not in strong East/South-Easterlies.
Tide times.
The outer harbour entrance is closed during the winter months to protect the vessels from the inclement weather. Access during this period is via the drawbridge which splits the Vincent Pier from the Lighthouse and during winter this is the only available access to the outer harbour.
