Harbour Act 1964 - Whitby Harbour Dues and Charges

Effective as from the 1st day of April 2008

All dues payable within 24 hours of entry or demand.  Failure to comply may result in on-cost charges for administration. All calculations of overall length will be inclusive of fixtures and fittings.

Visiting Vessels

Keel Boats and Fishing Vessels

Visiting for a period not greater than three months:

per month: £157.70
per week: £65.30
per visiting day: £16.15

Fishing Boats

Annual charges for commercial fishing vessels only where evidence of regular fish landings can be produced.  Acceptance of evidence will be at the Harbour Master's discretion.

Salmon Cobles - per year: £64.00
Open Motor Boats, Motor Cobles - per year: £154.75

Other fishing vessels excluding local keel boats:

Up to 9 metres in overall length - per year: £215.75
In excess of 9 metres in overall length - per year: £215.75
plus £23.80 per metre of overall length in excess of 9 metres

Local Keel Boats

Up to 9 metres in overall length - per year: £254.70
In excess of 9 metres in overall length - per year: £254.70
plus £28.05 per metre of overall length in excess of 9 metres

All measurements will be to the nearest highest 0.10 metre.

Wharfage Rates

On goods shipped or unshippped or transhipped within the harbour or otherwise imported or exported therefrom.

Fish

All kinds of fish including shellfish and herrings whether sold by auction or not in the pound: £0.04

Overlanded fish sold on Whitby Fish Market in the pound £0.03

Fish landed at Whitby but overlanded elsewhere, 1st May to 30th September only, and subject to a limit of one third of total landings in respect of any one market occasion - in the pound: £0.025

Nephrops whether sold by auction or not - in the pound: £0.02

Note: The dues on white fish, shellfish and herrings and all other kinds of fish when sold by auction or otherwise to be deducted from amount for sale by auctioneer or other buyer/salesman who shall pay the same over to the collector of rates and dues on the total quantity of fish as shown by his sale book, which said book shall be open to the inspection of the Collector of Rates and Dues at all reasonable times.

Welding Point on Fish Quay

Power point on New Quay Road - per day: £10.35 inc VAT

Craneage Rate - for the use of the hand operated crane on the Fish Quay for lifting small vessels in or out of the water (at the discretion of the Harbour Master) - per lift: £18.45 inc VAT

Use of raft - per day: £8.30 inc VAT

Use of forklift truck – per hour or part thereof (min. 2 hours): £17.05

Car Parking on Fish Quay - Annual Permit: £177.00 (inc VAT)

Arrest Fee: £53.05

Passenger Dues for Vessels Carrying Not More than 12 passengers (Fishing Parties) in Addition to Harbour Dues.

Passenger Boat Licence Fee issued on behalf of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency

Annual Fee (VAT not applicable): £99.00

Boatman’s Licence valid for 5 years (VAT not applicable): £99.00

Cobles, Keel Boats and Other Boats

Vessels licensed to carry not more than 8 passengers bona fide fisherman*:

Period 1st May to 31st October in each year: £130.10
Period 1st November to 30th April in each year: £109.50

Vessels licensed to carry not more than 12 passengers bona fide fisherman*:

Period 1st May to 31st October in each year: £243.60
Period 1st November to 30th April in each year: £171.20

* A bona fide fisherman is a person whose principal occupation is that of fishing commercially and whose catch is landed on the Whitby Fish Market and on which fish landing dues are levied.

Dues and charges are exclusive of VAT unless otherwise stated.
