A shellfish holding facility has been built at the north end of the fish quay car park, adjacent to the ice house.
The Council has facilitated this welcome addition to the industry with full cooperation from the fishing industry within Whitby.
Building and setting up costs have been met by grant funding from the MFA and Yorkshire Forward.
The facility will be run by a cooperative mostly made up from the local fishermen but the facility will be available to anyone landing shellfish products within the port. The cooperative can be contacted on 01947 606299.
The facility was formally opened on 24 October 2008 and will enhance the prosperity of the industry and greatly improve the quality of the product received by the customer.
