Further investment for Whitby Marina
April 2010
A report is scheduled to go before Scarborough Borough Council’s Cabinet meeting on 20 April to accept an additional £300,000 of funding for investment in the Whitby Marina area.
If the money is accepted the council will work with the local stakeholder groups and harbour users to design a scheme for landscaping the area and, subject to planning consent, contractors will then be employed to implement the scheme, scheduled to commence in the autumn of 2010.

Due to the severe weather the building is understandably a little behind schedule but the builders are working hard to make up time and make the building weatherproof.
The framework for the cladding has been applied and the stonemasons are expected to be on site this week.

Work is continuing on the foundations for the new development.
The building is beginning to take shape with the main wooden framework being erected.

October 2009
Work has begun on the upper harbour to prepare the land for the new onshore facilities building.
The previous amenity block was removed week beginning 12th October 2009.
Piling work for the foundations of the building began on 22nd October and should last 7-10 days.
Whitby Marina Onshore Facilities
Works to build the new facilities at Whitby harbour will commence on 5 October 2009 and are scheduled for completion on 31 March 2010.
If you have any queries regarding these works the site supervisor will be on hand to deal with day-to-day issues or alternatively please contact the Whitby Harbour Office.
Marina Users will be able to use the facilities on New Quay Road, please attend the Marina Office or Harbour Office for passes and keys.

Whitby Upper Harbour Development – Onshore Facilities
Scarborough Borough Council has been working in partnership with stakeholders to provide new marina onshore facilities.
Consultation has taken place and the proposals can be accessed using the link below.
The proposals will be submitted as a full planning application in early November for a Planning and Development Committee decision on 29 January 2009.

West Pier Fishing Industry Consultation
Two reports have been prepared by the Yorkshire and Humber Seafood Group regarding the future requirements of the fishing industry on the West Pier at Scarborough Harbour including the possibility of the introduction of a lobster hatchery on the site.

Scarborough – Inner Harbour Pontoon Development
As part of the Sandside Regeneration Initiative, in association with and partly funded by Yorkshire Forward, 60 new floating pontoon berths in the inner harbour at Scarborough Harbour have been installed and these have all been allocated.
The berths are available in three lengths of 8 metres, 10 metres and 12 metres and are fully serviced with water and electricity points.
They have been well received by our customers and a number of these pontoon berths will be available for visitors.
Shellfish Holding Facility
The Shellfish Holding facility was completed by the second week of June 2008 and has been receiving and holding shellfish landed by the cooperative member fishermen.
The facility was formally opened by Cllr W.H Tindall, Portfolio Holder for Harbours, on Friday 24 October 2008 and will be a welcome boost to the local shellfish fleet and to the ports income.
The facility is operated by a cooperative of Whitby Fishermen.
