Ports Services for Scarborough Borough Council are frequently involved in various new developments, proposals and updates to the currently available facilities.

West Pier Fishing Industry Consultation

Developments Title

Two reports have been prepared by the Yorkshire and Humber Seafood Group regarding the future requirements of the fishing industry on the West Pier at Scarborough Harbour including the possibility of the introduction of a lobster hatchery on the site.

Your views on these documents are invited and will be incorporated into a report to the Projects & Partnerships Overview and Scrutiny Committee on 21 July 2008.

Whitby Upper Harbour Development

Developments Title

The new single berth pontoons were installed during 2007 and are fully occupied.

Revetments works on the upper harbour are underway.

The Regeneration Team of Scarborough Borough Council are providing regular information bulletins and these can be viewed using the link below.

Upper Harbour Works to Commence

Developments Title

Construction work will commence on Monday 11 February 2008 to provide stabilisation of the river banks along the western side of the Marina and to provide utilities to the new pontoon off Endeavour Wharf.

The contractor is Seymour Civil Engineering Ltd. They will be setting up a site on the Marina Users Car Park and will display further information at their offices.

Every effort will be made to maintain access to the Marina Office but there will inevitably be some disruption during the works and your patience is requested.

Marina permit holders are permitted to park on the pay and display car park at Endeavour Wharf until completion of the works. Please make sure you display a valid permit as failure to do so will result in a fixed penalty.

If anybody has particular concerns or difficulties in relation to these works please raise them either at the Marina Office or at the Harbour Office on Endeavour Wharf.



Consultation on the West Pier at Scarborough Harbour

Scarborough Borough Council is currently undertaking a public consultation with regard to the possible development of the West Pier area at Scarborough Harbour.

At this stage no plans have been drawn up and public views are invited via the Scarborough Borough Council website and at a series of meetings to be held in November.

The aim is to collect people’s views and to see if a consensus on the way forward can be reached. Following the consultation period a number of options and plans will be prepared for further consideration.

Scarborough – Inner Harbour Pontoon Development

New Scarborough Harbour Pontoons

As part of the Sandside Regeneration Initiative, in association with and partly funded by Yorkshire Forward, 60 new floating pontoon berths in the inner harbour at Scarborough Harbour have been installed and these have all been allocated.

The berths are available in three lengths of 8 metres, 10 metres and 12 metres and are fully serviced with water and electricity points.

They have been well received by our customers and a number of these pontoon berths will be available for visitors.



Shellfish Holding Facility

Developments Title.

Works on the facility are well underway and the outer shell is almost completed.

It is expected that the facility will be commissioned in mid May 2008.

The facility will be operated by a cooperative of Whitby Fishermen which is currently well advanced in the formation stage.
